What's in this release
Since 2026.9.0 (18 September), sprints 135–139 finish the this-run launch and teach playbook generation a keyword the underlying model may have missed. After a human push, agents can read the project-update log when sync fails. They can list AAP hosts and groups on a listed inventory, then confirm-launch a limit that exists. Launch can send this-run tags and job_type check or run without changing the job template. Playbook generation can follow a short card for a post-2.16 keyword, and it can write a legal loop: index_var on the debug task, and loop_control.pause between items. Launch, Crane writes, cancel, relaunch, project sync, and apply stay HIGH_IMPACT with confirm:true. Public POST /aap/launch is still gone. The web UI still does not launch jobs.

Default Skill ide_ticket_to_playbook still does not launch. Opt-in ide_ticket_to_job_run browses membership, inspects launch-config, then confirm-launches. On a failed sync, ide_aap_scm_failure reads the update log and does not sync again by itself. PAT and transport: MCP quickstart. After you apply the update, fully restart the IDE MCP process so the tool list refreshes.

Rebuild the playbook index after the update so the new cards are retrieved. Crane’s own automation stays on ansible-core 2.16. Generated playbooks can name a newer minimum in a comment. Crane overview: Crane.
Who should apply it
Current subscribers. Apply the 2026.10.0 bundle — there is no separate upgrade SKU.
- IDE operators who launch after generate/push: restart MCP so the sync log, host and group lists, tags, and check-mode launch appear.
- Playbook authors on the default local model: rebuild retrieval, then ask for the outcome. A stop-early loop can use
break_when. A counted loop can useindex_var. A pause between items can useloop_control.pause. - Crane operators: apply, compare, and job-wait stay as in 2026.9.0. This drop does not change the CaC write.
Notes
Match 2026.10.0 on the appliance About screen. Do not invent a SemVer alias for this drop. Kit CalVer and backlogzero-mcp-server must match About.
- Launch, Crane writes, cancel, relaunch, project sync, collection-docs add, and apply remain policy +
confirm:true. The web UI still does not launch jobs. - Tokens stay out of MCP payloads. Credential browse stays name and id only. Inventory browse stays id and name. The sync log redacts URL userinfo, Bearer secrets, and token-like assignments.
- Empty launch overrides are still valid.
job_typeisrunorcheckonly. Inspect is READ: Controller down is soft-down and does not invent a launchable config or a log. - Ad-hoc SPA generate is not a GitHub path and is not an MCP create-task tool.
- Job events, a relaunch body, verbosity, execution environment overrides, Knowledge authoring CMS, generic ingest-as-MCP, and MCP create-task stay out.
