Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how Level Up Technology LLC d/b/a Level Up Labs uses cookies and similar technologies on backlogzero.ai. It covers the public website and customer portal we operate — not self-hosted BacklogZero software running in your environment.

1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how Level Up Technology LLC, a California limited liability company doing business as Level Up Labs ("Level Up Labs," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies and similar tracking technologies on the BacklogZero website, customer portal, and associated web interfaces we operate at https://backlogzero.ai (collectively, the "Service"). This Cookie Policy supplements the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Service.
This policy applies only to properties operated by Level Up Labs at backlogzero.ai. BacklogZero® software is self-hosted: cookies, storage, and tracking on deployments running in a customer environment are controlled by that customer, not by this policy.
By continuing to use the Service, you consent to our use of strictly necessary cookies as described here. Where a page loads a third-party embed or you proceed to Stripe-hosted payment pages, those third parties may set their own cookies as described in Sections 3 and 4. You may adjust cookie preferences through your browser as described in Section 5.
2. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by a website or application when you visit. They are widely used to enable websites to function, improve user experience, and provide reporting information. Cookies set by the website operator are called "first-party cookies." Cookies set by parties other than the website operator are called "third-party cookies."
In addition to traditional cookies, we may use similar technologies such as web beacons (clear GIFs), pixel tags, local storage objects, and session storage. For simplicity, this policy refers to all such technologies collectively as "cookies."
3. Types of Cookies We Use
We use the following categories of cookies on the Service. Strictly Necessary cookies (and Payment cookies set by Stripe to complete a transaction you initiate) are exempt from consent requirements because they are technically essential to deliver the requested Service. We do not currently set first-party Functional or Analytics and Performance cookies. Embedded-media cookies from YouTube are third-party and are set when you visit pages that include video embeds.
- We do not use advertising or behavioral tracking cookies.
- We do not permit third-party advertisers to set cookies through the Service.
| Category | Purpose | Examples and description |
|---|---|---|
| Strictly Necessary | Service operation | Authentication and session identifiers (including the bz_session cookie). These cookies are essential for signed-in portal features and cannot be disabled from the Service. |
| Functional | Preferences and settings | We do not currently set first-party Functional cookies on backlogzero.ai. |
| Analytics and Performance | Service improvement | We do not currently set first-party Analytics or Performance cookies on backlogzero.ai. |
| Payment | Secure transactions | Cookies set by Stripe on Stripe-hosted checkout and invoice pages to enable payment processing, fraud prevention, and checkout. Governed by Stripe's Cookie Policy. |
| Embedded media | Demo videos | Cookies that YouTube may set when a marketing page loads an embedded demo or origin-story video. Governed by Google's Cookie Policy. |
4. Third-Party Cookies
Certain third-party services integrated with the Service may set their own cookies. Those third parties are responsible for their own cookie practices. Key third-party cookies you may encounter include:
- Stripe: cookies set on Stripe-hosted checkout and invoice pages for secure payment processing and fraud prevention. See Stripe's Cookie Policy.
- YouTube / Google: cookies that may be set when marketing pages embed demo or origin-story videos hosted on YouTube. See Google's Cookie Policy.
Third-party policies: Stripe Cookie Policy · Google Cookie Policy.
We do not share personal information with third-party cookie providers beyond what is necessary for their respective functions. We do not currently use a first-party analytics provider that sets cookies on backlogzero.ai.
5. Your Cookie Choices
5.1 Consent
The only first-party cookie we set on backlogzero.ai is a strictly necessary session cookie used to keep you signed in to the customer portal. Because we do not currently set first-party Functional or Analytics cookies, we do not present a cookie-consent banner for those categories.
When you visit pages that embed demo videos, YouTube may set its own cookies. When you complete a purchase, Stripe may set cookies on its checkout or invoice pages. Those third parties are responsible for their own cookie practices. You can restrict third-party cookies in your browser settings.
Where you have enabled a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal in your browser, we will treat that signal as a request not to set first-party non-essential cookies (we do not set any). GPC does not by itself block third-party cookies set by YouTube or Stripe when you use those features. Where applicable under the CCPA/CPRA, we treat GPC as an opt-out preference signal, consistent with the Privacy Policy.
5.2 Browser Settings
Most web browsers allow you to control cookies through browser settings. You can set your browser to refuse all cookies, accept only certain cookies, or alert you when a cookie is set. Disabling strictly necessary cookies may prevent signed-in portal features (including account, docs, support, and downloads) from functioning properly.
Instructions for managing cookies in common browsers:
- Google Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies and other site data
- Mozilla Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies and Site Data
- Apple Safari: Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data
- Microsoft Edge: Settings > Cookies and Site Permissions > Cookies and Site Data
5.3 Do Not Track
Some browsers transmit "Do Not Track" (DNT) signals. The Service currently does not respond to DNT signals. If an industry-standard approach to honoring DNT signals is established, we will revisit this practice.
5.4 Analytics cookies
We do not currently use first-party analytics cookies. If we add them, we will update this Cookie Policy and, where required by law (including in the EEA, UK, Switzerland, and Québec), obtain consent before setting non-essential analytics cookies.
6. Cookie Retention
Cookies remain on your device for different periods depending on their type:
- Session cookies: deleted when you close your browser.
- Persistent cookies: remain for a defined period. Our first-party bz_session cookie is stored for 30 days, unless you sign out earlier.
- Third-party cookies: Stripe and YouTube/Google set their own retention periods as described in their policies.
| Name / source | Category | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| bz_session | Strictly Necessary (first-party) | Keeps you signed in to the customer portal (docs, support, downloads, account). | 30 days (persistent; httpOnly, SameSite=Lax; Secure in production) |
| Stripe cookies (stripe.com) | Payment (third-party) | Hosted checkout, invoices, fraud prevention, and payment security when you complete a purchase. | Set and retained by Stripe according to Stripe's Cookie Policy |
| YouTube / Google cookies (youtube.com) | Embedded media (third-party) | Play marketing demo and origin-story videos embedded on this site. | Set and retained by Google according to Google's Cookie Policy |
7. International Users
For users in the European Economic Area and United Kingdom, we rely on your consent as the legal basis for setting non-essential cookies, consistent with the ePrivacy Directive and applicable national implementing laws (including the UK Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations). For users in Switzerland, we rely on your consent as the legal basis for setting non-essential cookies, consistent with Swiss data protection and telecommunications law. For users in Québec, Canada, we also rely on your consent as the legal basis for setting non-essential cookies and other tracking technologies, consistent with Québec's Law 25. Strictly necessary cookies are set without consent as they are technically required to deliver the Service (including keeping you signed in to the customer portal).
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via email or a notice on this site and will update the effective date above. Continued use of the Service following notification of changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
